ST. FRANCIS CHURCH

St. Francis church situated at parade road and is 2 km away west of mattachancherry, Fort Cochin. This church is originally dedicated to Santo Antonio, a saint of Portugal, and is built by the influence of Europeans at mid of 6th centaury. Vasco-da-gama the first European to reach India during this session land died in Cochin in 1524 and was buried in this church Cemetery. His remains were removed after 14 years and kept at Lisbon Portugal. The rope which was operated by the fans is still preserved. In 1663 this graveyard has converted by the Dutch when they arrived in Cochin into a protestant church and time being modified it. This church was under the control of the Dutch until 1795. In 1804 this had been further surrendered to Anglican community of the British. The Congregation joined the protestant church in south India on 1949
